About

Herzliya Airport is located in the heart of an urban settlement on the border of populated communities such as Kfar Shmaryahu and Raanana. Due to this fact, the airport activities require coordination, attention to safety procedures and regulations, and maintenance of the right balance necessary to preserve the surrounding environment.

The airport is operated according to international standards, from the airline and passenger service to air traffic control and fire and rescue services. Air traffic is varied and enables different operations such as private flights and general aviation, air taxi services, crop dusting and other farm-related air traffic, and flight schools.

Future plans include the expansion of aircraft parking stands and vehicle parking spaces and the establishment of a restaurant and a lounge that will be a major element for flight school students and employees.

History

Herzliya Airport was established in early 1947, with the outbreak of the War of Independence. The airport was initially used as a military landing field for fighting squadrons. After the war, the airport became an agricultural landing-field, organizing the entire flight operation and aircraft maintenance required to serve agricultural needs in Israel.

Over the years, the airport was transformed into a center for flight studies, with a wide diversity of private and general aviation activities. Flight schools were established at the airport, parking stands for private aircraft were added, the runway was extended ,and a control tower and fire station were built, according to the current standards.

In May 1978, the responsibility for the management and maintenance of the airport was transferred to the Israel Airports Authority. Today, Herzliya Airport offers extensive and varied activities, including flight and simulation studies, theoretical aviation studies, and private flying activities on Saturdays, as well as private aircraft and helicopter rental service, aerial photography, and air taxi services.
