Peak season at Ben Gurion Airport, which starts in July, will continue through the summer months, and is expected to end after the High Holiday season of the month of Tishrei (i.e. end of September – beginning of October 2007). Just before the opening of the summer season, figures show that June has also been one of the most active months at Ben Gurion Airport, with about 862,125 passengers entering and leaving the country aboard 6,288 international flights.
Total figures for the month of June 2007 also indicate that the busiest day in June was Sunday the 24th, when some 43,580 passengers went through Terminal 3, aboard 260 flights.
International passenger traffic in June registered an increase of 5 percent, compared with June of last year. Since the beginning of the year, 4,403,249 passengers have passed through Ben Gurion Airport, representing a growth of 6.3 percent in passenger traffic compared with the same period last year. On domestic flights, 39,318 passengers went through Ben Gurion Airport in June, representing a decrease of 3.7 per cent compared with the same month last year.
All in all, on both international and domestic flights, 901,443 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport in June, aboard 7,226 flights.
Israel Airports Authority CEO Gabi Ofir said: "All required briefings have been provided for handling peak passenger traffic this summer at Ben Gurion Airport – where some 9.24 million passengers are expected this year. Domestic airports and border crossing terminals, where an additional one million passengers are expected, are also prepared for the summer's increased traffic."
