During August (beginning August 3), the Israel Airports Authority will conduct a pilot fast-track security check for passengers who checked in at home over the Internet and are carrying only hand luggage. These passengers will be instructed to proceed directly to the security checkpoint in the Sky Hall, where they will undergo a rapid security check, without having to go through the departure-hall security procedure. These passengers will follow the signs for "Internet check-in for passengers traveling with hand luggage only."
The pilot fast security checkup will be carried out by the security division at Ben-Gurion Airport in conjunction with airlines that permit online check-in from home: El Al, Air Canada, Air France, British Airways, Swiss, Continental, KLM, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Alitalia and Delta.
According to airline companies' data, about 10 per cent of passengers included in the pilot use the home check-in service; hundreds of passengers are therefore expected to pass through the fast-track security check.
IAA Director General Kobi Mor stated that "the fast security check is expected to improve passenger service, reduce pre-flight waiting time and enhance the overall flight experience. A passenger who checks in online at home, carries only hand luggage, and has a biometric ID card for passport control, can complete all outgoing passenger procedures within about fifteen minutes."
During July and August 2008, a record 2.6 million passengers are expected to pass through Ben-Gurion Airport, a 12 percent increase over last year's summer months.
