At the beginning of October, 2007, a delegation of security personnel from the security division of Ben Gurion Airport visited Denver International Airport, USA, to conduct a survey of security loopholes. The delegation was invited by the mayor of Denver, Mr. Hickenlooper, in the wake of a similar survey conducted in Los Angeles Airport by a delegation of security experts from the security division in October last year.
The request to carry out the survey of security loopholes was conveyed through Israel's consul general in Los Angeles, Mr. Ehud Danoch. The delegation’s trip was authorized by the acting CEO of the Airports Authority, Mr. Shmuel Kendall, by the managing director of Ben Gurion Airport, Mr. Zeev Sarig, and by the director of the security division, Mr. Shmulik Zakai, who are interested in promoting international cooperation on security issues between Ben Gurion Airport and leading international airports worldwide. During the week-long visit the security team surveyed security arrangements at Denver airport.
In the past few years airport security has become a central issue in international aviation, and Ben Gurion Airport is considered as having experience and an international reputation in this field. In recent years the Ben Gurion Airport security division has attracted many Israeli and international bodies involved in security and safety who wish to learn about Ben Gurion Airport's security concept and its method of application.
