About 495 thousand passengers passed through Ben-Gurion Airport on international flights during the Passover holiday; about 52 thousand travelers passed through the Taba border crossing; about 46 thousand passengers used the Eilat and Uvda airports; all the Airports Authority's facilities were well prepared to deal with the increased traffic over the Passover holiday, and to provide the best possible service
A 20-percent increase in international passenger traffic was recorded at Ben-Gurion Airport during the 2008 Passover holiday week. Some 507 thousand passengers passed through Ben-Gurion Airport over the holiday, 495 thousand on international flights.
This Passover continued the growth trend in passenger traffic: since the beginning of the year, there has been an 11 percent increase in Ben-Gurion Airport's international passenger traffic compared with the same period last year. During peak days, more than 50 thousand passengers (both incoming and outgoing) passed through the airport on approximately 300 flights a day.
About 52 thousand people passed through the Taba border crossing. This number included about 15,000 Israelis, despite the security warnings concerning travel to Sinai. Some ten thousand people passed through the Yitzhak Rabin (Arava) crossing on the border with Jordan during the Passover holiday, an increase of about 10 percent over the previous year.
The city of Eilat also geared up for visitors over the Passover holiday. 724 flights used Eilat airport, carrying 39,836 passengers, while 61 flights used Uvda airport, carrying 6,071 tourists.
According to Kobi Mor, the Israel Airports Authority's Director General: "The readiness to handle the increased passenger traffic was evident at all the IAA facilities. IAA employees made a special effort to facilitate the passage of more than 700 thousand people through the various facilities. As is the case in every year, Passover is the harbinger of the summer travel season."
