2010 – New Record in Passenger and Aircraft Movement at Ben-Gurion Airport
( Spokesperson Announcements  05/01/2011)

2010 was a record-breaking year in the movement of passengers and aircraft at Ben-Gurion International Airport, with approximately 11.5 million passengers traveling on international flights – an increase of 9.3% over 2009.

Approximately 86 thousand international flights passed through the airport, an increase of 5.5% over the previous year. Domestic passenger movement through Ben-Gurion Airport also recorded an impressive increase of 49% in 2010, approximately 452 thousand passengers. An increase of 10% was also recorded in the volume of cargo movement through Ben-Gurion Airport, approximately 300 thousand tons.

A record of traveler movement was also recorded at Israel’s international border terminals, approximately 4.1 million travelers, an increase of 21% over the previous year. Approximately 1.4 million passengers passed through the Eilat and Ovda Airports, an increase of 21.3%.

The Director General of the Israel Airports Authority, Kobi Mor, said: "2010 can be summed up by a significant increase in passenger and aircraft movement. The IAA has provided quality service to more than 17 million passengers at the airports and the border terminals during the past year, while at the same time placing safety at the top of its operational order of priorities."

Mor added: "We are planning extensive investment in the coming years in projects for improving the safety infrastructure, the security, and increasing the capacity of Ben-Gurion Airport, as well as implementing many projects at the border terminals and the domestic airports. The main challenge in managing and implementing these projects is to ensure that the day to day operation of the airports and border terminals continues without this having an adverse affect on the safety and the service."
