Towards the end of 2002, the Director General of the IAA, together with the Mayor of Holon, invited representatives of the community and various parties with an interest in the development and operation of Ben Gurion Airport, to a founding meeting of the Forum for Dialog and Cooperation. This meeting was attended by mayors plus representatives of residents, government ministries and the general public, as well as the IAA management and representatives of El Al and the Air Force.
At the first of a series of planned conferences, the relationship between the Airports Authority and the community was discussed, with a guest speaker on the subject of sustainable development. At the end, the conference decided to establish 3 professional committees (environmental quality, education, and society & economics), which were planned to start functioning starting in 2003.
