Travelers departing by car
· You must have an official English translation of the vehicle registration papers in addition to paying the transit fee.
· It is recommended to arrive with the translated vehicle registration papers, which can be obtained at any branch of MEMSI (Israel Automobile Club) in Israel, thus saving yourself standing in queues at the Terminal.
· The departure by vehicle to Egypt is subject to the following limitations:
· Only “private” cars (e.g. sedan, hatchback, coupe, station-wagon) and vans or two-box pickup trucks(with one cabin for the driver and the passengers) , with the owner present, are allowed to cross over.
· Commercial, diesel, open, minibus, micro minibus, bus, four wheel drive or rented vehicles are not permitted to cross over.
· Bank – it is possible to exchange Israeli currency for dollars or Egyptian pounds and vice versa.
· Likewise, it is possible to withdraw foreign currency using a credit card.
· Those departing with animals – You must pass through Customs to obtain instructions.
Security Directives
Be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to abnormal behavior, to suspicious people or objects.
Should any security suspicion arise, approach the local Egyptian security people and, if need be, also the Security Officer at the Israeli Embassy in Egypt.
When shopping, ensure that you get what you paid for and that the goods are packed in your presence.
Staying at a hotel (or other lodgings)
Try not to leave your passport with the reception clerk for purposes of registration, but rather complete the registration at the time of your entering the hotel.
Instruct the reception desk not to send up any postal items, envelopes, parcels, bouquets of flowers etc. to your room, but rather collect them only from the reception desk.
In the event of a suspicion or doubt with respect to the identity of the sender, do not open the parcel, and inform the security people.
Ensure that your personal baggage in supervised at all times throughout the trip and that baggage that has not been identified by its owners is not loaded onto the bus.
Do not accept letters or parcels to be sent in Israel without knowing the identity of the sender.
Should you have been given an object to be taken through into Israel, please inform the security officer of the fact upon your entry into Israel.
Public transport – it is recommended to make use of taxis from established companies or taxis you hailed of your own initiative.
The month of Ramadan
During the month of Ramadan, behave in a decorous manner, keep a low profile, and consider the sensibilities of the local residents.
It is recommended to dress modestly. Refrain from public activities of:
Eating, drinking and smoking amongst the local residents.
Drinking of alcohol.
