The Taba Terminal was opened for passage on April 26, 1982, one day after the withdrawal from Sinai.
Initially the terminal was housed in a tent, but later caravans and sheds were added, until it became the sophisticated and advanced structure it is today.
March 1989 - The international arbitration regarding the Taba area was concluded, by which it was determined that the public beach, Rafi Nelson’s village and the Sonesta Hotel will be handed over to the Egyptians.
The arbitration decision resulted in increased passenger traffic through the Terminal, since now also visitors to the Sonesta Hotel and to Taba must pass through the Terminal - and the Terminal switched to operating 24 hours a day.
September 1995 - The Terminal inauguration ceremony was held on site, after the construction of the new Terminal was completed at an estimated cost of $3 million.
Present at the inauguration was the then Minister of Transport, Mr. Israel Keisar, one of whose first decisions upon taking up office was the construction of the terminal.
1999 - Traffic through the terminal reached a record number of 1,038,828 passengers and 89,422 vehicles.
2000 - The events of the intifada adversely affect traffic through the Terminal and a reduction of 9% in the volume of traffic was registered.
2003 - 2004 - The volume of traffic though the Terminal increases and stabilizes.
