History of the Terminal

Nitzana Border Crossing, located on the Israel-Egypt border, began operating in 1982, with the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.

At the same time two other border crossings began operating:

The Rafiach border crossing, next to the town of Rafiach, and the Taba border crossing, south of Eilat.

At first, the terminal was a crossing for passengers and vehicles, as well as goods, but passenger crossings were very soon stopped, because of the very light traffic.

On the Egyptian side of the border, the terminal is called Al-Ouja.
