History

The Jordan crossing sits on the international crossroad between Israel, Syria and Jordan.

Its proximity to Amman, to the industrial city of Irbid in Jordan, to the Port in Haifa and the north of Israel, affords the Terminal huge economic potential.

 

November 1994 - The inauguration ceremony of the Jordan River Terminal was held, and a few days later, the Terminal was opened for the crossing of travelers.

 

1996 - Two new bridges were built over the Jordan River between the Israeli Terminal and the Jordanian Terminal, with the objective of improving the transit process and enabling the transit of wide loads.

 

July 1996 - The Freight Terminal was inaugurated, through which 3,122 trucks, carrying about 33,600 tons of goods, pass.

 

1997 - The signing of the transport agreement between Israel and Jordan, brings about increased traffic at the Terminal, and the volume of operations reaches about 307,000 passengers and about 27,000 vehicles.

 

1998 – The Arrivals Hall and Duty-Free Shop are opened.

 

2001 – The Import & Export Freight Terminal is expanded.

 

2005 – The construction of the Departures Hall and Security Check Post for private vehicles is completed.
