Message from the Managing Director

The Yitzhak Rabin Terminal, or as it was formerly known, the Arava Terminal, is historically linked to the peace agreements between Israel and Jordan: Here, on October 26, 1994, the peace agreement between the two countries was signed.

This is the first border crossing that was opened between Israel and Jordan, and today it serves passenger traffic, vehicle traffic and cargo trucks.

At present, the majority of passengers are foreign tourists, but also Israelis departing for Petra, Wadi Ram and other tourist destinations.

Recently, there has been a developing trend of going on tours in 4 wheel drive vehicle throughout the wide open spaces of Jordan.

The changes in Aqaba, with the construction of new hotels and the development of scuba diving sites, and the pronouncement of Petra as one of the seven major tourist attractions in the world, will, I believe, increase the volume of passengers passing through the Terminal, already in the near future.

The Yitzhak Rabin Terminal serves also as a freight terminal transporting various goods between Israel and Jordan, and as a land bridge to other countries.

The great demand in Israel for quarried materials and the pronouncement of Aqaba as a free trade zone, have spurred many factories from Israel to transfer their activities to the area.

Already some of the raw materials and finished quarried products are passing through the Terminal, inter alia many quarried products from Southern Jordan, such as cement, sand, and other aggregates.

The management of the Terminal will continue to act to develop and improve services for the benefit of the passengers and customers at the Terminal.

Best wishes,

Arye Zaxs
