Clarifications

By law, taxi drivers are required to turn on the taximeter for all special trips, and the fare is determined by what appears on the meter.

The driver may add surcharges to the fare - see the section on extra charges.

The passenger may choose how the taximeter should be operated, either as a meter or with a flat fare.

Meter

When this option is chosen, the taximeter operates as a meter, measuring the distance of the trip and calculating the fare, including wait times and standing time (in traffic jams, accidents, roadblocks, etc.). The driver must turn on the taximeter when the ride begins and turn it off upon reaching the destination. The amount to be paid appears on the taximeter display and on the receipt.

The driver's details, date and time the receipt is issued, the rate, start and end time of the ride, distance in kilometers, amount due and a list of the surcharges should all be printed on the receipt.

Note: The taximeter automatically switches between Rate 1 and Rate 2, and calculates the fare accordingly.

Please insist that the cab driver provide you with a receipt when you reach your destination.

Flat fare

The taximeter is programmed with a list of 71 destinations from Ben-Gurion Airport to various places around Israel.
(If the destination is not included in the list, a flat fare is not possible, and the driver must run the taximeter, as set out above).

When the destination is included in the list, the price is determined upfront, according to the rate schedule. The fare is calculated according to the distance between city centers.

When this option is selected, the driver must turn on the taximeter and show the passenger the fare, as determined, from the point of origin to the destination.

Upon reaching the destination, the driver must turn off the taximeter. Please insist that the driver issues you a receipt when you reach your destination.

The driver's details, date, time trip begins and ends, point of origin and destination, rate, fare and a list of the surcharges should all be printed on the receipt.

Note: Whether Rate 1 or 2 is charged depends on the time the price quote is provided at the start of the trip and does not change in the middle of a trip.

Fares:

The fares that appear in the table and in the section on surcharges are based on the valid and up-to-date Supervision Order for Prices of Goods and Services.

Rate 2

Rate 2 applies for travel at night, from 9:01 p.m. through 5:29 a.m. the following day.

On holiday eves, Jewish holidays and Israeli Independence Day, it applies from 5:00 p.m. to 5:29 a.m. the day following the Sabbath/holiday.

 Surcharges:

  • The surcharge for a suitcase is NIS 4.4. Note: The price for transporting a package that is not a suitcase is not regulated.
  • For a third passenger (over the age of 5), the surcharge is NIS 4.9
  • When the passenger asks the driver to take Highway 6 (Trans-Israel Highway), aside from the segment from Iron Junction to Ein Tut Junction (Segment 18, northbound), the passenger will pay the fare set for this part, plus an additional NIS 16.6
  • When the passenger asks the driver to take Segment 18, the passenger will pay the fare set for this part, plus an additional NIS 5.5
  • When the passenger asks the driver to take the fast lane on the segment between Ben-Gurion Airport Junction and Kibbutz Galuyot Junction in Tel Aviv on Highway 1, the passenger will pay the fee for travel in the fast lane, as it appears on the electronic sign at the entrance to the fast lane, unless the vehicle is exempt from payment of the fee.
  • If the passenger requests that the driver use the Carmel Tunnels, the amount determined for this part is to be paid along with a charge of NIS 6.2 for travel on one segment and NIS 12.5 for travel on two segments.
  • On a trip that includes waiting for the passenger, there is a fee of NIS 94.00 for each hour of waiting time. For every 15 minutes or part thereof, the relative amount for 15 minutes will be paid.

Note: The binding version is as set out in the Traffic Regulations and in the Supervision Order on Prices of Goods and Services.
